You downloaded the template I made and don’t know how to use it? No problem, this page will help you set it up. If you’ve already created websites before, especially on WordPress, expect the setup and customization of the site to be around half a day. If you can understand the basics of the internet, expect about 1 day of build time. If you’re entirely new to this, it can be done in a weekend.

I will try as hard as I can to rely on Youtube videos. It will save me time and will be easier for you. If you’re already used to this, I will also link to official documentation so that you don’t need to watch all the videos.

1. Hosting the website

I will show you how to:

  1. get a domain, and host the website on a traditional host
  2. host the website on your computer
  3. import the template I made into your website.

1.1. Hosting a website on a traditional website host

Hosting the website can seem complicated at first but you don’t need to be a developer to do it. These days, even people who struggle with technology can host their websites. If you haven't chosen a hosting platform yet, please refer to the Domain and hosting guide linked at the end of this section.

First you need to buy a domain name. A domain name is the URL address that your visitors will type on their browser to arrive on your site. google.com is Google’s domain name. I recommend that you use .com domains and make them easy to remember and identify you. Check the guide at the end of the section for more tips on choosing a domain name.

You can get a domain anywhere you want but some hosts also let you get a free domain for the first year. If you struggle with money or are not keen on spending too much, you can choose a platform like Namecheap, Hostinger, or Infomaniak to get a free domain with your website hosting.

When you know what domain you want, buy it. It’s quite easy and all registrars (= domain selling companies) work the same way so the tutorial below applies to all of them.

You can then link your domain name to your hosting. Again , it will work this way with most platforms. The only thing that can change is that the process can be easier if you just get hosting with a free domain.
